Spring Term 2016, consider taking the course and associated field immersion travel to Kenya during spring break
ENTP/SDEV 307: International Social Entrepreneurship
CRN 17778 (4 Credits)
MWF: 3:10-4:00 pm
Description: International social entrepreneurship aims to change the world through innovation in solving social problems. Focus on the nexus between social entrepreneurship and development practice, especially in relation to NGOs. Emphasis on acquiring the tools and conceptual framework to launch a new social venture through real world hands-on field work and team-oriented learning by doing. Exposure to best practices in field methods with respect to development projects, to how to affect meaningful social change in poor countries, to generate and evaluate innovative ideas for poverty reduction, to develop those ideas into concrete on-the-ground start-up plans, and to take initial steps to implement them. It is recommended, but not required, that students have some previous experience with development or entrepreneurship, such as through enrollment in ENTP 101 or IR 322 or Eco 303 or CEE 205 or SDEV 010. Attribute/Distribution: SS Field Immersion Travel: This year's offering of International Social Entrepreneurship will include a trip to Kenya, for approximately 8 nights over the Spring Break. The trip will expose students to a variety of exciting ventures seeking social and/or environmental impact, from startups to proven success stories. There will also be ample time for sight-seeing. Expected Travel Dates: March 10-20, 2016

Course fee: TBD, but will not exceed $2350
*This course fee will cover all of your expenses once you are on the ground in Kenya. Airfare is not included, and current searches show fares as low as $750. Visa is also not included ($50 for US citizens), nor any other expenses prior to the trip (vaccinations, toiletries, etc.). Students desiring souvenirs or other personal items on the trip will have to pay for these expenses out of pocket as well.
 
SIGNIFICANT FINANCIAL AID IS AVAILABLE TO THOSE CONSIDERED TO HAVE HIGH OR MEDIUM FINANCIAL NEEDS.
