The Team

Kelsey Briel
Lehigh University Sustainable Development - Kelsey Briel
Kelsey is a junior from Round Hill, Virginia working towards a Bachelors of Science double major in Finance and Economics with a minor in Sustainable Development. Her other campus activities include membership in Kappa Delta Sorority, tour guiding, and the Community Service Organization. Her past relevant experience includes internships at Ameriprise Financial in Northern Virginia as well as a financial analyst internship at E.ON in Prague, Czech Republic. Her specific interests relate to the effects of macroeconomic public policy on the future sustainability of affected areas.
 
John Kalafut
Lehigh University Sustainable Development - John Kalafut
John is a junior from Allentown, Pa working towards a double major in Business Information Systems and Accounting with minors in Sustainable Development and Computer Science. John is active on campus by being involved in membership in Sigma Chi Fraternity, club baseball, and the Business Information Club. This past summer, John interned as a management consultant in the operations department for PWC in Prague, Czech Republic through the Lehigh in Prague Program. His goals upon graduation are to continue to develop this program in Bermuda and strengthen the relationship with BIOS. He also wants to find a career in the Information Systems field, analyzing business data to make them more efficient and productive.
 
Mike Celeste
Lehigh University Sustainable Development - Mike Celente
Mike is a Junior from Parsippany, New Jersey concentrating in Energy Systems Engineering and Sustainable Development in the IDEAS (Integrated Degree in Engineering Arts and Sciences) program. He is a Head Residential Advisor on campus for a first year residence hall, teaching assistant for an introductory Chemistry lab and a member of the Rossin Junior Fellows - an honors engineering society dedicated to service, peer mentoring and recruitment of new students. He is also involved in Spectrum, Lehigh's LGBTQIA student group as well as Lehigh's Chapter of "No More"- an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault through awareness and action. His other interests include the martial arts, teaching and practicing yoga as well as cooking and painting. He has done biofuel research at Exelus Inc. in New Jersey regarding the life cycle analysis of the company's cellulosic ethanol process and is excited to be shifting gears to a wave energy project. When he graduates he hopes to pursue a doctorate in the field of Sustainable Energy and eventually work in the Renewable Energy industry helping to solve the global energy crisis and mitigate the effects of climate change.
 
Juliana Telles
Lehigh University Sustainable Development - Juliana Telles
Juliana Telles is a Senior Chemical Engineering major in the energy track and a Sustainable Development minor at Lehigh University. She is from Bethlehem, PA and a Geltman Scholar. She was awarded a Research Experience for Undergraduates grant at Lehigh University where she worked with Dr. Israel Wachs and performed research on direct catalytic conversion of methane (CH4) to aromatic liquids (gasoline). She presented her research at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers national annual conference in San Francisco in November of 2013 at a poster presentation reviewed by AIChE professionals from both academia and industry. This past summer she was hired as an intern by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc where she worked in Construction Estimating in the Global Engineering division. In addition to being President of the Lehigh University chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, she is also a brother in Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity, a tour guide for the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering, a LU SusDEV blogger, and a member of the Lehigh University Wind Ensemble. Upon graduation, she hopes to utilize her engineering skills and Sustainable Development knowledge in the renewable energy sector. 
 
Kaitlin Baird

Kaitlin currently helps manage both international and local community partnerships for Ocean Academy at BIOS. Kaitlin oversees the building and maintenance of relationships with schools, professional associations and non-profit organizations locally and internationally. She currently aids in science curriculum development and workshops for Ocean Academy Explorer program, and manages the Bermuda Program, Marine Science scholar program and Road Scholar programs at BIOS.She received her Master’s in Conservation Biology in 2008 from Columbia, where she remains on certificate faculty. Kaitlin holds a B. Sc. (Hons) in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University (‘06). Kaitlin currently is the education and outreach chair for the Bermuda Lionfish Taskforce.
